There’s a study from 1973 that appeared in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition that Dr. Martin still remembers to this day. Researchers discovered that consuming 75 grams of sugar would stop white blood cells from chasing bacteria for up to 5 hours. The white blood cells would go for a siesta!

Now there’s a recent study from Dr. Lustig, one of the leading experts on sugar and the effect of sugar, saying that 50 grams of sugar is the level they can already assess damage to the liver. This is more reason why you really need to stop consuming sugar.

Dr. Martin says if you don’t do anything, at least give up sugar. If you truly want to get healthy, it’s an absolute necessity!

One of the most confusing things in medicine is histamine intolerance. Histamine is a substance your body produces when it needs to get rid of something. For some people their body seems to remain in a high state of alert, overreacting to everything.

Dr. Martin says it really is an autoimmune reaction and he used to see it a lot in his clinic. For some women, every one of their hormones, cortisol, estrogen, insulin, thyroid were out of whack.

Join Dr. Martin as he unravels histamine intolerance and its complicated puzzle in today’s episode.

A study out of Norway looked at 50,000 people, both men and women, who had high total cholesterol. After following them for many years, it was discovered that it made absolutely no difference in rates of heart disease. In fact, for the women, if you had high cholesterol, your heart was actually better!

Join Dr. Martin as he unpacks this study in today’s episode. Dr. Martin can’t help but shake his head that it’s been 50+ years and we’re still having to talk about cholesterol. Cholesterol doesn’t cause heart disease. It never did.

An Israeli study is saying that exercise, the real vitamin E, can reduce your risk of cancer by 72%. The study looked specifically at muscle building exercises.

You may not know who Otto Warburg was, but he had a theory that cancer cells are different from normal cells. Normal cells thrive on protein and fat, whereas cancer cells feed on sugar. The premise of the Warburg Effect is that the more muscle you have, the more bins you have for storing glucose.

Dr. Martin has often talked about having larger storage bins for glucose and that’s why muscle building exercises are the most important exercises you can do, especially when it comes to preventing cancer.

  • How much B6 is toxic
  • Allergy shots
  • Taking too much iodine
  • Calcium scoring

A new study out of Tufts University on prostate cancer is looking at the P13K enzyme. This enzyme’s job is to open the valve that lets sugar in. If you have diabetes, the valve barely functions, but if you have cancer, the valve is wide open.

Why does this happen? Join Dr. Martin to break down this study. The names of some proteins and enzymes can be confusing to most, but Dr. Martin is here to decipher them for you.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States is now recommending that breast cancer screening start at age 40. It used to be 50.

Dr. Martin explores the reasons behind the change in today’s episode. It’s not that Dr. Martin doesn’t like screening, but he thinks focusing on prevention first is a much better approach.

When it comes to cancer imaging, there’s a new kid on the block. GlucoCEST, or Glucose Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer, utilizes an MRI for detecting cancer and it’s quite effective. You’d think this news would be mainstream, but sadly it isn’t. This technology is so new that Dr. Martin hasn’t even heard of it.

Another study Dr. Martin looks at is saying how cancer can often be misdiagnosed for a fungal infection. Dr. Martin explains why this is significant in today’s episode.

What does Dr. Martin think of weight loss medication? Not much, he says. You may lose some weight while you're on the medication, but the problem is you're going to get a lot of serious side effects. Plus, as soon as you go off the medication, you’ll gain back all the weight.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses some of the weight loss programs and why eating eggs, meat and cheese is the best option. He teaches on how fat storage works in the first place.

Do you know the time of the day when people most frequently have a heart attack? The article Dr. Martin read says it’s early in the morning. But why is this? What’s different about earlier in the morning versus later in the day?

It has to do with blood clots, and we are more likely to have clots when we are dehydrated. We are most dehydrated first thing in the morning, and that means our blood can be thick as molasses.

Join Dr. Martin as he teaches on the power of water and why it’s so good for your heart.

May 15, 2023

A study Dr. Martin looked at is saying how an ongoing stressful situation can cause a healthy person to develop insulin resistance in as little as 4 days!

We all need cortisol. It’s part of our fight or flight mechanism and it’s our friend until it becomes our enemy. The problem is when cortisol doesn’t shut off. This leads to insulin resistance, and left unchecked, it can become a perfect storm for a cancer diagnosis.

Join Dr. Martin as he teaches on cortisol and insulin resistance and how to break the cycle.

Every now and then, Dr. Martin will see a headline so absurd, it makes him want to scream. This headline is so bad it gave Dr. Martin a triple migraine. Coming to a grocery store near you is Kit Kat cereal. Literally a chocolate bar for breakfast thanks to General Mills.

The truth is, the cereal companies don’t care about your health. It’s up to the consumer to make better choices, but unfortunately many people don’t know better.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses the food industry and why you can’t blindly trust it.

May 11, 2023

Dr. Martin has often talked about the leaky gut, leaky brain connection, and it appears researchers are now also acknowledging the connection.

When you consume sugar, your microbiome gets disrupted, and when it comes to Alzheimer's, you get a double whammo. This is what a recent study is saying. They’re agreeing that sugar breaks the gut-brain barrier, leading to autoimmune diseases.

Join Dr. Martin as he looks at some studies on Alzheimer's and how sugar affects gut health.

  • Low cortisol vs. high cortisol

We have a major problem in the world today in terms of health, and would you believe the cause is pre-existing conditions? That’s right… They all have the same root cause, and it’s metabolic syndrome.

Dr. Martin says there are 3 major epidemics happening today… obesity is the first, metabolic syndrome the second, and the third is mental health. We truly have a mental health crisis in North America, and it’s getting worse.

Join Dr. Martin to learn why pre-existing conditions are linked to what’s happening in our world in terms of health.

May 8, 2023

Dr. Martin shares a cancer study that looked at 17,000 cancer tissues for 35 different cancers, and you know what they found? Fungus was present in all tissue samples.

There's a huge connection between cancer and fungus, and it’s finally getting some traction. Dr. Martin has often talked about yeast and fungus and how they cause silent inflammation which can lead to cancer.

One of the greatest lies we’ve ever been fed about food is everything in moderation. Ask any dietician or nutritionist and they will tell you that everything in moderation is okay.

Dr. Martin has always disagreed with the statement. We don't need moderation in nutrition, we instead need elimination in nutrition. You would never tell an alcoholic that a little drink is okay, or a drug addict that a little hit is fine. The same goes for food. So many of us are carboholics and we need to eliminate certain foods from our diets.

Join Dr. Martin as he shares an article that explains what happens to your body when you drink just one can of soda. It’s not easy to change, but it’s simple. Dr. Martin explains in today’s episode.

  • Sjogren's
  • High oleic sunflower seed oil

Dr. Martin has been reading some interesting articles on mental health recently and thought he’d talk about them.

Mental health sort of got turned on its head in the last year. It was shown how depression wasn’t a chemical imbalance, that there’s been a failure in the treatment of bipolar, and how the cause of Alzheimer’s isn’t amyloid plaque.

For Dr. Martin, controlling your mental health really starts in the kitchen. We can’t control our environment, but we can control what we eat. Proper brain food starts with making better food choices.
