Dr. Martin continues his teaching on telomeres in today’s podcast. Telomeres are the wick-like caps that protect your DNA. The shorter they are, the quicker you will age. 

He shares a study from the Mayo Clinic that’s showing extreme tiredness is connected with the length of your telomeres... and those with shorter telomeres have a greater risk of heart disease!

Inside our cells, we have DNA, and on your DNA are little wick-like caps called telomeres. The length of those wicks is the key to determining how quickly you’re aging. The shorter your telomeres, the more the aging.

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin looks at two studies… one out of Ohio State University showing that high doses of DHA will not only protect your telomeres, but also help to lengthen them. 

The second study is about coffee… the true vitamin C as Dr. Martin refers to it. Coffee is a very powerful antioxidant and it actually protects your DNA. This study from the European Journal of Nutrition is reporting a 23% improvement to your telomeres in only four weeks!

An article in the Daily Mail in the UK is recounting a medical doctor’s 30-day experiment where his diet consisted of 80% processed foods. He ate everything from chicken nuggets, pizzas and frozen dinners, to breads, sandwiches and cereals. The foods that most people in the United Kingdom eat on a daily basis.

A mere four weeks was all it took for the doctor to pile on weight, cloud his thinking, disrupt his sleep, increase anxiety, develop heartburn and constipation, and even get piles. But most remarkably his brain was rewired!

It’s a remarkable study and Dr. Martin explains how the doctor is essentially doing the exact opposite of The Reset. Imagine how your body could be transformed and your brain rewired by eating only eggs, meat and cheese for 30 days!

We almost always hear from the media and the gurus on the internet and dieticians that we shouldn’t be eating red meat. Young people are especially indoctrinated in this belief, that a large majority are now borderline anemic.

Dr. Martin shares an observational study that came out of the UK showing that dementia decreased by 50% in those who regularly ate red meat. Over half a million participants over 10 years, the risk of dementia is down by 50% compared to those who didn't eat red meat or very little of it.

We need red meat in our diet, and Dr. Martin goes on to make this point by sharing things found in the animal kingdom that are not in the plant kingdom.

A recent study has shown that avoiding the sun is as detrimental as smoking. Yes, not going out in the sun is as healthy as smoking!

No doctor today is going to tell you that smoking is good for you. We know that smoking is 100% related to cancer. Still today one of the number one reasons people die if they smoke, is cancer.

Oxalates are small molecules that have a tendency to pick up calcium in our bodies. You may have heard of oxalates when hearing about kidney stones. Most kidney stones are oxalates.

Dr. Martin explains how consuming oxalates can really irritate your gut and cause inflammation in the body. As part of The Reset, he wants you to avoid oxalates for 30 days so that your body can be rebalanced.

Did you know that colorectal cancer is the fastest growing cancer in women, next only to breast cancer? That’s a 30% uptick in the last few years, and that's just in women, nevermind men!

We have a war going on in our gut between our good and bad bacteria. When that microbiome gets disrupted and then you add sugar and crappy carbs to the mix, you’re actually feeding an invasive army.

Whether or not you have cancer, or the makings for cancer, Dr. Martin wants you to focus on getting your diet right. You can't control what’s happening around you, but you can surely control what you put in your mouth everyday!

Dr. Martin discusses a headline saying that doctors are starting to worry about the diet of teen girls. He thinks we have a big problem in the world, and it’s not the virus. The big problem we have is in the thinking amongst the young people in our world today.

Dr. Martin calls it indoctrination, that young people, and especially teenage girls, are being influenced not to eat from the animal kingdom. Same goes for climate change. Kids are being taught that eating from only the plant kingdom will save our planet.

Because of this, a lot of young people are now suffering from anemia. When you have anemia, you don’t have enough oxygen. The red blood cells are not carrying enough oxygen, and that is so dangerous for your brain and overall health.

Did you know that your liver does 600 different things? You can't live without the liver… and did you know it can even regenerate? You truly are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Dr. Martin gets asked several times a week about a condition called hemochromatosis, which is increased iron levels in your blood. The liver is accumulating too much iron and it’s all because of a fatty liver!

So how do you get rid of hemochromatosis? You need to empty your liver… and that starts with changing your food! Empty your liver, and you'll empty your iron. Dr. Martin explains more of this on today’s episode!

SIBO stands for Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth. In this episode, Dr. Martin teaches why he thinks the word bacterial needs to be replaced with a different word.

So many times we’re prescribed antibiotics for various ailments. When you take an antibiotic, you actually wipe out all the good bacteria. This in turn sets you up for a bacteria overgrowth in the small intestine. Medicine says it’s bacteria, but Dr. Martin says it’s yeast.

Leptin is the hormone that tells our brains, “Okay, I'm full. I don't need to eat anymore and now I'm going to increase your metabolism.” 

Dr. Martin shows listeners in today’s episode the stark difference between 1 pound of fat, versus 5 pounds of fat. He stresses the difference between them is because of insulin. 

Leptin and insulin work together. When you eat crappy carbs and sugars, you end up developing insulin resistance. When this happens, your body makes more fat, and this causes more leptin to be secreted. Eventually, you develop resistance to leptin too! 

A chain reaction is set off in our bodies… but there is good news! This resistance can be reversed, and it comes down to what we eat.

Doctors in Canada and in the United States... and all over the world, really... are 50 years behind when it comes to vitamin D. The numbers used to calculate recommended intake are wrong, as doctors only considered the benefits to bones, and not the immune system.

Your immune system needs vitamin D to function properly, and if you’re not getting it from the sun, you need to supplement.

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin teaches on HDL (high-density lipoprotein) and shares how to increase your levels of it.

HDL is often referred to as your good cholesterol, and the purpose of HDL is to pick up bad lipids in your bloodstream. These bad lipids are in fact triglycerides which clog up your arteries. It's not cholesterol that clogs up arteries, it's triglycerides!

Cholesterol has long been made the boogeyman. It gets blamed for what sugar does, and it’s all because of a researcher in the 1950s who theorized it was the root cause of heart disease. Cholesterol is not a bad thing. Cholesterol is a good thing. You need cholesterol!

Dr. Martin shares the illustration of your body as a wood stove. To start a fire, you start with paper and twigs, and once that’s burning, you add logs to keep the fire going. If you don’t start burning logs, your fire will quickly go out. 

In this illustration, paper and twigs are the crappy carbs we consume, and the logs are eggs, meat and cheese. The paper and twigs burn quickly, and you’ll need to continually add more fuel to the fire. With the logs, they will burn a lot longer, providing a longer lasting source of energy. The better the fuel, the better the results!

Dr. Martin also discusses several statements about generalities in health. Statements such as, “don’t manage disease, prevent it,” and “treat the cause of the illness,” are discussed in today’s episode.

Dr. Martin goes through the “Top 20 Sources of Carbohydrates in the American Diet” on today’s podcast and links it to a recent study from the British Medical Journal. 

The study shows how carbohydrates, just like sugar, nicotine, or narcotics, take a direct route to the reward centre of your brain! No wonder so many people are carboholics! They are in fact addicted.

We truly do have a problem with metabolic syndrome today… whether it’s heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes… it’s all connected and it has to do with what we eat!

Dr. Martin teaches about senescent cells and inflammation in today’s podcast. Senescent cells are dysfunctional old cells that accumulate in the body. Having too many can be dangerous as they’ll cause inflammation, especially in the arteries around the heart and brain.

Inflammation is silent, and we don’t realize it’s happening. Dr. Martin talks about C-reactive protein (CRP) testing that will detect inflammation. If your body isn’t getting rid of enough senescent cells, your inflammation will be elevated.
