Dairy has been given a bad name over the years and Dr. Martin explains why in today’s episode. He urges you not to ditch dairy, but to instead change your dairy – don’t ditch it, switch it! 

From the removal of fats, to the influence of the cereal companies, milk is not what it was. Despite this, marketing still tells you that you need milk. Dr. Martin disagrees with this sentiment calling today’s milk, “white Pepsi.” He instead urges you to start consuming more cheese.

Eating fat has never made anyone fat, nor has full fat dairy ever given someone a heart attack. What makes people fat and at risk of a heart attack is the sugar and crappy carbohydrates they consume, not dairy.

Dr. Martin continues his two part series on brain health. Last episode he went over foods you should be avoiding, and today he shares ways to protect your brain.

We have a barrier between our blood and brain, much like we have between our blood and gut. It’s called the blood-brain barrier. This barrier protects our brains. Your brain needs omega-3s so much that it allows fatty acids such as DHA to cross the blood-brain barrier. 

This is so significant that big pharma is readily trying to create a delivery system that will mimic how omega-3s can cross this barrier. It shows you how important DHA is for your brain. If you can’t eat your DHA, you must supplement.

A study from the University of Florida is showing how terrible high-fructose corn syrup is for the brain. It starts to create amyloid plaque in the cerebral cortex of the brain, unlike any other sugar, because the body sees it as a foreign invader. 

When your body sees something foreign, it attacks it. This is what causes inflammation, and it will start to damage blood vessels in the cerebral cortex. You’re essentially opening the door to Alzheimer’s when the blood-brain barrier is breached.

Join Dr. Martin as he begins a two part series on brain health. In today’s episode he does some teaching on how your brain works, and shares the foods you should be avoiding – no surprise here, but the first one is sugar!

There's a mental health crisis in North America – and it's going to kill hundreds of thousands of people. One of the curses in our society today is opioids and addictions. 

A study out of The Massachusetts General Hospital is showing that people deficient in vitamin D are much more likely to have addictions, and especially addictions of opioids.

Dr. Martin shares the importance of getting your daily dose of vitamin D and gives more reasons why it’s so important for your health – and especially to those with addiction problems.

Addicts are constantly looking for their next fix of endorphins, the feel-good hormones. By exposing your skin to the sun, you’re creating those same endorphins – no wonder it feels so good when you’re out in the sun!

DHA is crucial for your brain, eyes, and reducing inflammation... and now is associated with reducing the incidence of cancer. The University of Louvain is showing that DHA omega−3 fatty acids can disintegrate solid tumours within a few days.

Cancer needs fuel, and when you continue to supply it with sugar, crappy carbs and PUFAs, it can spread quickly. What’s happening with DHA is that cancer cells are tricked into thinking the fatty acids are lipids. When they take them in, the cancer cells ultimately disintegrate.

This truly is a groundbreaking discovery and Dr. Martin explains how DHA needs to play a role in fighting cancer, but more importantly in the prevention of cancer!

An interesting study out of France is showing that the French have less incidents of heart disease than all their European neighbours, and 10 times less than us in North America. This is in spite of the fact that the French smoke more than any other culture!

Why is this? Dr. Martin unpacks this study and links it to a listener’s question about protein. It’s in fact carbohydrates that make you fat, and not too much protein. When you don’t immediately consume the energy in carbs, it’s ultimately stored as visceral fat around your organs.

Protein and fat are actually the best fuels for your body. When you’re eating crappy carbs, your cells are in fact starving to death. You’re constantly hungry, and when you switch to a better fuel of eggs, meat and cheese, your hunger will disappear. It’s not magic, it’s science!

The FDA recently approved a new drug for Alzheimer’s. The drug was approved despite a panel of doctors voting 10-1 against its efficacy. This decision is troubling to Dr. Martin as it throws the FDA’s principles out the window.

There are currently no effective drugs for Alzheimer’s, and this new one has its effectiveness already in question. Dr. Martin shares why people’s brains are shrinking, and it’s because of metabolic syndrome. The problem comes down to food, and what you’re choosing to fuel your brain with.

Dr. Martin also recaps yesterday’s episode on xenoestrogens and the environment. He shares some stats on the number of plastic masks and gloves that have ended up in our oceans because of COVID-19. The number is surprising!

Annually, 450 million tons of plastic are created in our world. Plastic has been found in the highest parts in the world, Mount Everest, and in the deepest parts of the oceans. It's in the environment. It's in the water. It's in the air. It’s in our blood – yes, that’s right! 95% of us have plastics in our blood.

Dr. Martin shares a study showing that BPA plastics in particular are disrupting men’s testosterone levels. It's actually shocking how low men's levels of testosterone have gotten in the last 30, 40 years. When men hit the age of 50, most have more estrogen than their wives do!

Plastics are indeed everywhere, there’s no getting around that, but Dr. Martin shares two ways we can better manage the onslaught. Here’s a clue… the first one has to do with diet. The second one… you’ll have to listen to today’s episode to find out what!

Hemoglobin A1C is a simple blood test that measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. Every time you breathe, red blood cells go through your lungs and hemoglobin attaches to oxygen, circulating it throughout your body. Sugar also attaches to hemoglobin, and the hemoglobin can’t get rid of it, and this is how A1C is tested for.

What a recent study is saying is that atherosclerosis, hardening of the arteries, is happening a lot sooner than we thought. Previously if you had an A1C below 5.7 you were considered normal. Now, if your A1C is 4.8 or higher, hardening of your arteries has already begun.

Dr. Martin stresses the significance of this finding and reminds listeners that diabetes is a lagging indicator. Many of us are already diabetic despite blood tests coming back as normal.

It is estimated that 340,000 people die in a typical year in the United States because of a lack of sunshine! Yes, you read that correctly! The number in Europe is 480,000. That’s over 800,000 people dying annually because of a lack of sunshine!

Dr. Martin looks at a Swedish study of 30,000 women that has concluded that a lack of exposure to the sun is as bad as smoking! 

Some benefits of more exposure to the sun include a stronger immune system, more “feel good” hormones such as dopamine and serotonin, and elevated nitric oxide, which is good for opening up your blood vessels.

If you’re not getting enough exposure to the sun, you need to be supplementing with vitamin D – your life depends on it!

Dr. Martin shares a study on chronic constipation and fibre. The study points to your thyroid as a factor, but the biggest factor is dehydration. It's a lack of water why you’re constipated and not because you need more fibre.

If you ask a physician today about constipation, well over 90% would tell you you're not eating enough fibre. This is the lie cereal companies have made us believe. Dr. Martin says it was his parents’ generation who became the cereal eaters. They were told to get rid of bacon and eggs and replace it with cereal. 

To this day, many people are still convinced that they need fibre to have a bowel movement. Listen to today’s episode to learn why “vitamin W,” water, is so important, especially for the proper functioning of the bowel!

Dr. Martin shares two recent studies on the effects of eating a plant based diet. When you decide to eat strictly from the plant kingdom, your risk of depression goes through the roof, and worse than that, your risk for colon cancer is greatly elevated.

We are meant to eat from both the animal kingdom and the plant kingdom. When you eat exclusively from the plant kingdom, you need to be supplementing daily with vitamins A, B12 and D. You’re simply not getting the vitamins you need from plants alone.

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin ties these two studies together and shares how the superior foods for your immune system are found in the animal kingdom.

You may not have heard the name Otto Warburg but he is a Nobel prize winning physiologist who was before his time. He started talking about how the cancer cell was different from normal cells and that it had a receptor for sugar and glucose. This was 1931.

Dr. Martin teaches on Otto Warburg’s theory of cancer in today’s episode. His theory was that cancer cells, unlike any other cell, had a generating plant and they would take glucose and ferment it into lactic acid. These cells were super hungry and would divide if you fed them. This is where Dr. Martin’s saying, “don’t feed the bears” comes from.

Warburg’s theory was largely ignored but has come full-circle in recent years as scientists are seeing that cancer is in fact a metabolic disease.

You’ve probably heard the name Louis Pasteur, the inventor of pasteurization, but unless you’ve taken a class in biology, you may not know the name Antoine Béchamp. 

Both were French chemists in the 1800s who had rival theories about bacteria and viruses. Pasteur is famous for the germ theory, the accepted theory amongst science that says we need to fight bacteria and viruses. Béchamp’s theory, the terrain or host theory, says that bacteria and viruses are always going to be around and we need to focus on building our immune systems. Unfortunately, Béchamp’s theory has been rejected by science.

Dr. Martin provides a history on the two theories and again emphasizes the importance of vitamin D for a healthy immune system!

Dr. Martin shares a recent headline, “Deadly fungi are the newest emerging microbe threat all over the world.” This information, coming out of India, is showing that people who got sick from the virus were actually sick from fungus that got into their lungs. 

Fungi are very destructive, and they are resistant. Because of the overuse of antibiotics, we now have resistant superbugs, but these are in fact nothing compared to these emerging deadly fungi!

Dr. Martin shares a personal story of a patient who breathed in black mold and died within 3 weeks of exposure. Hear this story and learn why it’s so important we strengthen our immune systems in these uncertain times.

A recent study out of the US that tested the omega-3 serum levels of thousands of Americans is showing that 68% of adults are low in omega-3. What’s even more shocking is that 95% of children who participated in the study were also low in omega-3!

Dr. Martin calls the situation a catastrophe! By and large, our dietary guidelines have been infiltrated by the vegan agenda. We are eating less meat than ever before, and kids are being indoctrinated to not eat meat.

Kids need DHA to develop their brains, and those long chain fatty acids are not found in the plant kingdom. They’re only found in meat!

The number one condition that people, and especially women, came to see Dr. Martin is for a misdiagnosed thyroid problem. Dr. Martin has seen enough patients that he can usually spot a sluggish thyroid, but that’s because he looks for the symptoms.

The Thyroid Stimulating Hormone or TSH blood test is used to diagnose a sluggish thyroid. It was developed in 1975, and instead of relying solely on the lab results, doctors also looked for symptoms. Nowadays, the lab results are king, despite not telling the whole story!
