If you’ve ever battled with depression, you’ve likely been told you have a chemical imbalance and were subsequently prescribed an antidepressant drug.
A comprehensive study appearing in Psychology Today has given a decisive blow to the serotonin hypothesis. The study concludes that we were marketed a hypothesis that is a hundred percent wrong!
It was Joseph Schildkraut who introduced the chemical imbalance theory in 1965. Shortly thereafter, the pharmaceutical industry came out with serotonin inhibitors like Prozac and Zoloft which have turned into a multi-billion dollar industry.
Join Dr. Martin as he shares this study debunking the chemical imbalance theory!
Over the years, Dr. Martin has found that people suffering from depression were low in vitamin D, B12, magnesium, and omega-3. A recent study agrees with that and has shown how omega-3 is especially good for improving depression symptoms.
There are different types of omega-3s, but the most effective one is DHA. In fact, our brains are made up mostly of DHA. That’s why it’s important to consume healthy fats like steak and fish.
Join Dr. Martin as he shares the 5 reasons this study found why omega-3 is good for brain health!
A recent article is saying how exercise is a more effective antidepressant than any medication we have on the market. Dr. Martin likes the headline but says when a person is depressed it’s nearly impossible to get them to exercise!
Dr. Martin was around in the 1970s when antidepressants took off. They were intended to be used temporarily and not for long-term treatment. Getting to the root cause of why someone is depressed is something Dr. Martin would do in his practice.
Join Dr. Martin as he unpacks the article and shares why vitamin E, exercise is the key to battling depression!
People often ask Dr. Martin how many cups of coffee he drinks daily. The answer is 4 and according to a new study on coffee, that’s the sweet spot.
If you’ve followed Dr. Martin for some time, you know that one of his favourite topics is coffee – or as he calls it, the real vitamin C.
Join Dr. Martin as he looks at two new studies on the benefits of regularly drinking coffee.

A statistic that Dr. Martin based his last book on is that 88% of the population has some form of metabolic syndrome. That means only 12% of the population is considered healthy. This is significant because metabolic syndrome opens the door to heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes and autoimmune.
A new study from Tufts University is saying the situation is worse than we thought. It’s reporting that only 7% of the population is metabolically healthy. It means that out of 15 people, 14 of them have some form of metabolic syndrome!
Join Dr. Martin as he unpacks this study and explains why we’re in such a metabolic mess!
Dr. Martin has said before how high fructose corn syrup is the Frankenstein of sugars. It’s man-made in a laboratory and your body doesn’t know what to do with it.
One of the major side effects of consuming so much fructose is a fatty liver. When the liver can no longer process the sugar it starts storing it around our major organs. What has recently been discovered is that fructose also damages the pancreas.
Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode to learn about the pancreas and why high fructose corn syrup is causing damage.

Glyphosate is a broad spectrum herbicide used in agricultural weed control. There have been lawsuits against the maker of the chemical because it ends up in our food.
An interesting study is showing how glyphosate doesn’t end up in the actual meat of animal, but instead in what they produce. So, it may show up in the milk or eggs, but not the animal itself. Dr. Martin says this is a big win for the animal kingdom!
How do these toxins avoid getting in the flesh of the animal? It’s their gut, the microbiome, that deals with the toxins. Dr. Martin explains further in today’s episode!
Autoimmune is when the immune system turns on its healthy cells. In North America, 1 in 12 people will get autoimmune, and if you’re a woman, it’s 1 in 9. One thing that’s consistent with autoimmune is that all forms of it start in the gut.
Join Dr. Martin as he teaches on autoimmune and the gut in today’s episode. Every cell in your body has a barcode, and your immune system checks the barcode to see if the cell is friendly or not.
When it comes to your gut, you have trillions of bacteria that are part of your immune system. When the bacteria can’t read the barcode of something, it flags it as a foreign invader. Without enough good bacteria, your immune system can turn on its healthy cells.
It’s unbelievable how prevalent colorectal and colon cancer have become. The number of cases is causing havoc in our society today!
Dr. Martin talks about what is destroying our guts in today’s episode. Another way to put it is, what makes your gut susceptible to cancer? Or what destroys your microbiome? Number one reason on the hit parade is crappy food… sugars and crappy carbohydrates!
Nothing will destroy your microbiome quicker than processed foods. What we eat has changed dramatically over the last 50 years and Dr. Martin explores how that’s affecting our gut.

You probably never think of your thymus gland and likely don’t know of its purpose. A new study came out showing that this small little insignificant gland actually has a purpose. The research showed that the thymus gland is actually like a university. It’s a bootcamp for your white blood cells!
Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode as he teaches about the thymus gland and the role it plays in how our body functions. In Dr. Martin’s words, it’s absolutely incredible!
Dr. Martin recently wrote an article that's just been published. He looks at food choices and asks if our choices are creating deficiencies.
In the article, Dr. Martin focuses on kidney health and talks about 4 things that are detrimental to your kidneys. The number one thing is a lack of water, H2O. Your kidneys are like Niagara Falls flowing all the time. You need to remain well hydrated if you want your kidneys to function properly!
Dr. Martin also focuses on sugar as something that’s detrimental to your kidneys. Don’t believe it? Ask a diabetic. Join us in today’s episode to learn what the remaining items are.
Dr. Martin likes to share with listeners the news behind the news, the stories the mainstream media is unlikely to report on. Case in point this new study talking about the difference between plant and animal protein.
The study looked at the absorption of protein from plants versus that of chicken. What they found was that the body absorbed the protein from chicken better than the plant protein.
Protein is king. It's the king of the castle and when it comes to the nutrients we need. Why not choose the one your body absorbs better?

It’s being reported that 45 to 60% of patients seen in the emergency room are deficient in potassium. This is a dangerous situation!
There are certain electrolytes that we all need. Potassium, magnesium, and sodium are all very important for our bodies. Dr. Martin looks at why so many people are deficient in electrolytes like potassium in today’s episode.
He also explains how dehydration and a lack of water can affect your heart’s electrical grid. The vast majority of people who have a heart attack is when their heart goes into afib.
Dr. Martin talks about one of his favourite subjects of all time… coffee! Just in the last week three new studies have come out on coffee. Today, Dr. Martin looks at coffee and its effect on the thyroid gland.
The thyroid is a complicated, finicky organ and at the Martin Clinic we call it a puppet, because of all the strings attached to it. So many things can affect the thyroid, so much so that it’s difficult to diagnose a problem with your thyroid.
In today’s episode, Dr. Martin looks specifically at how cortisol affects the thyroid and how coffee helps lower cortisol.
It was John Denver who sang that sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy. Dr. Martin thinks of that song whenever the sun is shining.
Recently Dr. Martin shared some news that the FDA was recalling lots of sunscreens because of their carcinogenic effect. Now, a new study is showing that people who use sunscreen are much more susceptible to melanoma than people that don't use it.
Join Dr. Martin as he shares a combination of studies on sunshine, why it works, and what it does when you get it on your skin. Exposure to the sun is so good for you, and there’s no need to be afraid of it.
Many doctors automatically put young women on birth control to regulate their periods, and more times than not, those pills contain estrogen. Estrogen is a growth hormone. It’s what makes ladies beautiful, but too much estrogen is a bad thing.
If you’ve followed Dr. Martin for any time, you know how he’s interested in hormonal balance. Finding this balance is a tightrope walk for most women. Your levels of estrogen and progesterone need to be in balance.
Join Dr. Martin as he talks about birth control pills and what it means to be too much of a woman!

The CDC has found up to 300 chemicals in the blood. Dr. Martin was relating yesterday how toxic that is for our brain. Today, Dr. Martin shifts his focus to the addictive brain.
Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs as it gets to the pleasure center of your brain within 10 seconds of lighting up a cigarette. We’ve known for a long time now that smoking causes lung cancer. Large tobacco companies had to pivot and now are some of the largest food companies in the world.
Processed foods have become the tobacco of today. Dr. Martin explains why in today’s episode.
Anyone who has ever undergone chemotherapy knows of chemo brain, the loss of short-term memory and brain fog that persists after treatment. That’s one of the side effects from the toxins reaching your brain.
Dr. Martin talks about how to protect the brain by diminishing exposure to these toxins in today’s episode. He teaches about the gut-brain axis and the liver-brain axis and why these connections are really important to understand.
We live in a toxic world and our brains can become toxic if we don’t protect them!
Whenever you see I-T-I-S at the end of a medical condition, it’s referring to inflammation. So when you hear arthritis, for example, the name is referring to inflammation of the joints.
Dr. Martin reveals the connection between anything that ends in -itis, inflammation, and food, which is insulin. He talks about the symptoms to look for that point to high circulating insulin.
Remember that inflammation without a cause is bad news. Learn more in today’s episode!
