Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used for acid reflux and conditions such as GERD and Barrett's esophagus. Many people have trouble with their stomachs with acid coming up. It can be a very unpleasant condition and literally so painful at times, it mimics a heart attack.

A new study is showing that people who take PPIs are much more susceptible to diabetes. Join Dr. Martin as he breaks down the study and looks at insulin resistance as a possible cause.

Every now and then, Dr. Martin brings you a knock your socks off moment, and this is one of them. The American Heart Association is now linking non-alcoholic fatty liver to heart disease!

Dr. Martin says this is maybe the first time he’s seen the connection, at least in mainstream medicine. In the 70’s there was cirrhosis of the liver, but never non-alcoholic fatty liver. The study goes on to say that 1 in 4 people, including children, in North America have a fatty liver.

Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode to understand why the linking of fatty liver and heart disease is so significant!

A new study is saying that 90% of the population is walking around with sticky blood vessels. What does this mean? Dr. Martin teaches on insulin resistance, or high circulating insulin like we call it at the Martin Clinic.

In every chronic disease, cancer, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's, diabetes, autoimmune… the elephant in the room is food. The food we eat causes our pancreas to secrete insulin, and when we’re eating crappy carbs and sugars, this insulin never shuts off. When this happens we become insulin resistant and in most cases, you’re already a diabetic.

Learn how sticky blood vessels occur and why they’re dangerous to our health!

A new study is saying red meat will shorten your life. Of course Dr. Martin disagrees and he uses the “motorcycle gang theory” to explain why this claim is false.

When guys join a motorcycle gang, they generally die young. They tend to love red meat, 90% of them smoke, and nearly 100% of them drink hard. So, to say that red meat shortens your life and to exclude the other factors, makes the claim invalid. This is the motorcycle gang theory – to look at the obvious and not consider the other factors.

Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode to learn more about the importance of eating red meat!

When Dr. Martin talks about vitamin C, it’s usually about coffee, but in today’s episode he talks about the actual vitamin, ascorbic acid.

It was Linus Pauling who put vitamin C on the map. Before him, vitamins weren’t popular at all in North America. He actually won a Nobel Prize in medicine for his work on vitamin C.

Dr. Martin shares some points from a recent article he read on vitamin C and provides his thesis on the topic.

Oxalates are found in the vegetable kingdom and are little crystals that your body makes from food. The highest sources are found in spinach, almonds, and legumes.

Dr. Martin reviews a new study showing that oxalates can be bad news for some. The study is saying that dietary oxalates can be a factor in heart disease if you don't eat them with calcium. They can cause hardening of your arteries.

Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode to learn all about oxalates and why they can be bad news.

Apr 11, 2022

Dr. Martin reviews an interesting study on omega-3 and metabolic syndrome.

We have about a 30:1 ratio of omega-6 over omega-3s and the biggest reason for that are crappy carbohydrate vegetable oils. When you consume so many omega-6s, your body starts an inflammatory process. This is bad.

Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode to learn the benefit of increasing your omega-3 intake and decreasing your omega-6.

We’ve always been told that calories are important and to lose weight you need to eat less and move more. Dr. Martin has always fought this idea as they’re not taking into account insulin, estrogen, or a sluggish thyroid.

Dr. Martin wants you eating nutrient-dense foods. When you do this, calories are irrelevant because you need less food to feel full. An example is one slice of pizza that has the equivalent calories of eating 9 eggs. We usually eat more than 2 slices of pizza, so the caloric intake is like eating 2 dozen eggs!

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses calories and why we don’t count them on The Reset!

Dr. Martin is a history guy. He loves history and especially the history of food. It makes up a big part of his education and it’s why he wants to teach nutrition to the world.

It was 1955 when President Eisenhower had a heart attack while playing golf. This is when a pathologist at the University of Minnesota, Ancel Keys, first became known. He claimed that cholesterol and saturated fat had caused Eisenhower’s heart attack. Keys went on to become the leading doctor when it came to cholesterol and food.

President Eisenhower’s heart attack changed the world because it set us on a track of hammering down cholesterol and changing the foods we eat. It turns out that the heart attack wasn't caused by diet, but rather cigarette smoking.

‘Follow the science’ has become a catch phrase in recent years and it’s often used when people don’t want to be questioned. Our health care is really not following the science either, especially when it comes to prevention of disease.

Our bodies are built to handle stress but for short periods of time, not long-term. When we’re stressed, cortisol kicks in, but when it doesn’t shut off, it can be detrimental to your body. Dr. Martin talks about 6 things that can happen when you have high circulating cortisol.

Join Dr. Martin as he talks about the effects of stress on your body in today’s episode!
