Throughout the years, Dr. Martin has had the opportunity to counsel other doctors on nutrition. Unfortunately, family physicians receive little to no training about nutrition and that includes vitamin B12.

B12 is essential for making red blood cells, nerve function, and brain health, but so many of us are deficient. Poor diet, medication use, and digestive issues are all factors, but there are more that you probably didn’t know of.

Join Dr. Martin as he shares the unexpected symptoms of low vitamin B12.

Aug 28, 2023

Dr. Martin discusses two new surprising studies both having to do with diabetes and insulin resistance. It turns out that H. pylori bacteria and statin drugs both have connections to diabetes.

Dr. Martin further explains in today's episode.

Martin Clinic recently sent an important email to its customers about high blood pressure. Dr. Martin breaks down that email in today’s episode and gives a teaching on what causes high blood pressure.

For most of us, we’ve been led to believe the common misconception that salt intake is the primary cause of high blood pressure. Dr. Martin says that’s false. Dehydration and a high-carb diet are more likely the main culprits.

Join Dr. Martin as he explains why lowering your insulin levels is a much better approach to reducing high blood pressure than it is to take medication.

When Dr. Martin sees a trend in health care, he can’t help but ask why it’s happening. Why are we seeing so much more depression lately? And why specifically are women more susceptible to getting depression?

When it comes to hormones and mental health, Dr. Martin says you need to connect the dots. Women are more prone to depression because of hormonal imbalances, when estrogen dominates and progesterone is lacking.

Join Dr. Martin as he takes a deep dive on “horror-mones” and mental health in today’s episode!

According to the Council for Responsible Nutrition in the United States, hundreds of thousands of medical events related to chronic diseases could be avoided with the use of supplements. The report showed how taking omega-3 was especially effective in reducing cardiovascular events and hospitalizations.

It turns out that 80% of Americans already take supplements, and that number would be similar in Canada. Dr. Martin is quite concerned about the legislation recently passed in Canada that would restrict access to supplements.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses the report in today’s episode.

Do you let your pets regularly sleep in your bed? You may not realize it, but you’re putting yourself at risk of getting parasites!

Dr. Martin looks at two studies on the brain in today’s episode, one on schizophrenia and the other on multiple sclerosis (MS). Both studies found a common denominator: parasites in the brain or the central nervous system.

Join Dr. Martin as he shares how to protect yourself from parasites and explains why you shouldn’t let your pets sleep with you!

Aug 17, 2023

A Canadian study has found that missing out on 4 hours of sleep affects decision making. Researchers discovered there is less activity in the frontal and parietal lobes of the brain when you’re lacking sleep.

Join Dr. Martin as he brings you two studies on sleep in today’s episode!

Dr. Martin shares an incredible study that’s linking autism to the microbiome. Researchers analyzed the microbiome of kids with autism and discovered they have no bifidobacterium or very little of it. This likely lead to leaky gut.

Dr. Martin has been consistent in saying that leaky gut leads to autoimmune and can cause autism in kids. This study just emphasizes the importance of looking at the gut as a potential cause of autism.

Back in 1900, your risk of being diagnosed with any type of cancer was 1 in 30 people. By 1990, that number had jumped to 1 in 5. In 2000, the number is now 1 in 2 people will get cancer.

These statistics are quite frightening. Why has cancer surged so much in the last century? Dr. Martin attributes it to changes in our food, and particularly with the introduction of high fructose corn syrup. Cancer cells feed on sugar, and fructose provides the perfect storm for cancer to flourish.

Join Dr. Martin as he explains why the fructose in HFCS is far worse for you than regular glucose.

You must already know how much Dr. Martin likes vitamin S, steak. There’s no food in the world that is better for your organs than steak. In fact, every organ in your body benefits from red meat.

Dr. Martin says certain nutrients in steak are especially beneficial for the brain, liver, immune system, and heart, and are only found in the animal kingdom. He calls them the four C’s.

Join Dr. Martin as he goes into detail as to why no food on earth compares to red meat!

Many people know about the benefits of omega-3 DHA for the brain and heart, but what about your lungs? A new study is showing that omega-3 DHA also helps with lung health.

Lung cancer is still the number one cancer in North America, despite so many getting the memo to quit smoking. Why is that? Dr. Martin blames it on aldehydes. When you smoke, aldehydes are produced, and they’re extremely bad for your lungs. Aldehydes still exist, but now they’re found in the bad vegetable oils so much of our food is cooked in.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses this new study and shares how DHA helps your lungs!

You may have heard about the latest craze in weight loss. Drugs intended for diabetes such as Ozempic and Wegovy are being used off-label for weight loss.

The drugs definitely help you shed the weight, but it turns out they have significant side effects such as stomach paralysis that can persist even after stopping the medication. Dr. Martin says the pharmaceutical industry is prioritizing profits over people's health by encouraging off-label use of their drugs.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses proper nutrition and fueling the body with nutrient-dense foods for long-term weight loss and overall health in today’s episode.

Aug 4, 2023

Dr. Martin continues his discussion on gut inflammation, and recaps the reasons why your gut may be inflamed in today’s episode.

The use of antibiotics is the number one reason for leaky gut. They disrupt the microbiome and for a lot of people, opens the door to an invasion of the third army, yeast. Small intestine fungal overgrowth, SIFO as Dr. Martin prefers to call it, is the cause of so many people’s gut issues.

Aug 3, 2023

Join Dr. Martin in part 1 of a two part series on why your gut may be inflamed. From antibiotics, to fiber, to dehydration, there are many reasons why your microbiome can get disrupted.

Probably 99% of the population will go through a period in their life when their gut bothers them. But for some, their gut is the most sensitive area in their body. They struggle big time with issues like irritable bowel syndrome that diminishes their quality of life.

In the summertime when you're hot or sweating, you lose salt. Most people know this, but many don’t know about the importance of electrolytes.

Why Doctors Struggle to Fix Hormones was the subject of an email Martin Clinic recently sent. Dr. Martin says the email was quite significant as hormones are something he dealt with every day with patients. Doctors just aren’t taught how to properly deal with hormones.

If you’ve followed Dr. Martin for some time, you know he refers to hormones as horror-mones, as that’s the experience for many women. In today’s episode, Dr. Martin further expands on that email explaining the hierarchy of hormones.

The United States has only 5% of the world’s population yet they consume 50% of all pharmaceutical drugs. This stat comes from an article Dr. Martin read, Pill Popping Nation.

When it comes to health statistics, Dr. Martin usually groups Canada into the number, as we’re often similar to the US. When someone develops a sickness, the first response is always prescribing drugs, and never lifestyle changes.

Join Dr. Martin as he explains how North America lives in a society that’s dominated by big food and big pharma.
