When we hear about melatonin, most of us think of it as helping us sleep better. That’s true, but did you know that melatonin is a very powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant? It helps your cells not to rust out so quickly.

Dr. Martin teaches about melatonin in today’s episode. We all have a small pea-sized gland at the base of our brains. This gland, the pineal gland, has been referred to as our ‘third eye.’ When light enters our eyes, the pineal gland is what makes melatonin. Melatonin is also made in complete darkness.

Listen to today’s episode to learn all about melatonin, and how it has a shelf life for some people.

A recent study is showing how the combination of vitamin D and omega-3 decreases your chances of getting autoimmune by 25%.

Dr. Martin shares his theory on autoimmune disease, and why today it’s an epidemic. All disease starts in the gut and it’s no different with autoimmune. Dr. Martin speaks specifically about Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and how it can begin.

He also speaks about vitamin D and omega-3 and how we need to supplement if we’re not getting it naturally or through our food. Join us today for this informative session!

A recent discovery of a specific protein called ROC has got Dr. Martin excited. This protein actually feeds the good bacteria of your microbiome.

Your microbiome is made up of trillions and trillions of bacteria on your body, and in your body, and most of it is found in your gut. In the last number of years, scientists have been studying the microbiome and bacteria and are seeing how it affects everything. They're finding out that Hippocrates was right 2,000 years ago when he said that all disease starts in the gut.

Dr. Martin also discusses how high fructose corn syrup is changing our microbiome. Learn more by listening to today’s episode!

Dr. Martin shares two fascinating studies in today’s episode. One of them is showing how the virus can hijack certain receptors in our cells to gain access to the body. People with high blood pressure, and those especially on medication, are more susceptible to getting the virus.

When you take blood pressure medication, your body creates more ACE2 receptors in order to lower your blood pressure. The problem with having more of those receptors is that it allows more opportunity for the virus to enter your body.

But there’s good news… the second study is showing how cholesterol shields your cells with a dome of protection. The higher your cholesterol, the more dome you have over your cells so they don't get hijacked by a virus or a bacteria.

Listen to today’s episode to learn another reason why you want your cholesterol to be high!

Did you know it was World Vitamin D Day on November 2nd? Of course Dr. Martin couldn’t pass up the chance to celebrate, what he calls, World VitDerma Day!

He brings you a shocking study from researchers at the Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. They have made a recommendation to their government and to other governments to change their opinion on vitamin D. They’re recommending that everyone should be taking vitamin D.

One of the things that surprised researchers was that the amount of vitamin D you had in your bloodstream was directly proportional to the outcome with the virus. That’s right, the more vitamin D you had in your system, the less likely you were seriously affected.

As discussed in yesterday’s episode, the vast majority of the population has a fatty liver and doesn't even know it. Dr. Martin gives a quick recap and hones in on the thyroid in today’s episode!

This episode is for the ladies, as only a woman understands horror-mones! The moment your liver starts accumulating fat, you create a condition inside your body called inflammation. And when you have inflammation, you have problems.

Dr. Martin also explains what 'The Fog of War' is in this episode.

Certain types of mould… candida, yeast, fungus… can produce toxic compounds called mycotoxins. These toxins disrupt your microbiome and will make you sick if they get in your bloodstream.

Dr. Martin looks at several studies about breast cancer and breakfast cereals and their connection to mycotoxins. He has always been interested in dysbiosis, which is a big word for the disruption of the microbiome.

Nov 2, 2021

Dr. Martin talks about money in today’s episode. In the United States, it costs $1 billion dollars a day to manage diabetes. That’s a $365 billion annual strain on the US economy. In Canada, that number would be 10 times less because of our smaller population.

Diabetes is the number one cause of blindness, the number one cause of heart disease, and likely the number one cause of cancer, amputations, and kidney disease. Unfortunately, medicine sees no incentive in providing a cure because of how much of a cash cow the management of diabetes is.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses the cost of diabetes and why prevention needs to take priority over management of the disease.

Nov 1, 2021

When Dr. Martin likes something that’s essential, he tends to give it a name. Vitamin S is for steak, vitamin E for exercise, vitamin W for water. As for vitamin D, everyone needs this vitamin, and since it’s absorbed through your skin, Dr. Martin has called it vitderma. Vitamin “skin” because vitamin D is made when sunlight touches your skin.

Today is a blow your socks off kind of day as some important hot off the press news has come down the pipe. Study findings out of Warsaw, Poland are saying that the world’s vitamin D levels are crashing. Dr. Martin says this news is incredible, but not surprising. Governments are influenced by 3 main drivers: big pharma, big food, and big media. There’s an agenda being played out that has vilified vitamin D.

Join Dr. Martin as he unpacks this study and explains why vitamin D levels are crashing all around the world!

Growth only happens with a challenge, and challenge brings change. This is a saying Dr. Martin jotted down as it reminded him of the days in his clinic, trying to encourage patients to initiate change. He would challenge patients, encouraging growth and ultimately making change.

So many times, people fail to launch. They never start their journey, as half the battle is just getting started. When looking at doing the Reset, many people fail to start because they didn’t have a plan to succeed.

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin shares some strategies to help you get started with the Reset, and that can be applied to your wellness journey.

Oct 28, 2021

An interesting finding published in the American Journal of Psychiatry from a Dutch cohort study. In diagnosing major depressive disorder, three things are measured, and this study is saying that the number one characteristic is insulin resistance!

Dr. Martin says this is earth shattering blockbuster news. The study looked at 200 subjects, focusing more on men, and each one of them having depression were also exhibiting insulin resistance.

Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode as he further unpacks this study!

It’s being reported that when you have low levels of vitamin D, you also have low levels of glutathione. Dr. Martin says this is concerning because 80% of the population is deficient in vitamin D!

If you remember from previous episodes, glutathione is like Velcro and is created in the liver. Its job is to literally take the garbage out of your body. When you have low levels of glutathione you’re opening the door to autoimmune diseases like Parkinson’s.

Join Dr. Martin as he teaches how glutathione is created and why having optimized levels of vitamin D is so important!

Oct 25, 2021

A new study is showing that having high blood pressure between the ages of 35 and 44 is linked to smaller brain sizes later on in life. The findings mean you’re more susceptible to getting Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other autoimmune disorders.

Today’s episode is all about blood pressure. Dr. Martin teaches about the systolic and diastolic numbers that make up your blood pressure. He also shares the ranges for normal blood pressure, prehypertension, and for hypertension.

Blood supply is really important and Dr. Martin shares what you can do to ensure your brain stays healthy!

Oct 22, 2021

Dr. Martin shares some history on probiotics and how his recommendation for patients has changed over the last 40 years. What we knew about probiotics back in the 70s compared to now, there's really no comparison.

Dr. Martin also teaches on the different strains of probiotics and why it’s so important to have a broad spectrum of bacteria. To be classified as ‘broad spectrum’ a probiotic must have 10 different strains of bacteria.

Listen to today’s episode to learn how our Probiotic Complex is ideally suited to your gut!

Oct 21, 2021

Dr. Martin discusses over the counter medications and their effect on your microbiome. We often take these medications, usually for pain, with no regard for their side effects. In fact, 300,000 visits to the ER take place each year for serious side effects from these medications!

Despite the serious damage non-steroidal anti-inflammatories can cause to the liver and kidneys, most people don’t realize they also cause damage to their gut. They actually are very damaging to the lining of your gut because they kill your good bacteria!

Don’t miss this informative episode where Dr. Martin breaks down the long term effects of using over the counter meds.

Oct 19, 2021

October is breast cancer awareness month. When Dr. Martin graduated in 1974, one in every 20 women in North America would get breast cancer. Today, that number is 1 in every 6 women!

Dr. Martin agrees that we need to be more aware of breast cancer. Cancer starts as the size of a pen tip, and it takes 5 years to get that size. Our healthcare system is all about early detection, when it really needs to be about prevention – what to do to prevent cancer in the first place!

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin answers a question about eliminating tumours in breast tissue. He teaches about the trifecta that makes tumours grow... estrogen, insulin, cortisol, and how getting those under control can literally save your life!

Oct 18, 2021

Dr. Martin shares a 12 week study that’s showing inflammation was reduced by 30% when taking probiotics. A really interesting study that used C-reactive protein (CRP) testing to determine inflammation levels in participants.

Inflammation damages blood vessels primarily, but it also affects the brain. More studies are referencing the gut-brain axis and the importance of having healthy bacteria – why everyone needs to be taking probiotics!

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin also goes over 10 things to keep doing if you want to get Alzheimer’s. Nobody wants to get Alzheimer’s, but if you keep doing these things, your risk goes up dramatically!
