You’ve more than likely heard Dr. Martin talk about leaky gut, but you may not have heard of dysbiosis. It’s just another term for leaky gut syndrome, or leaky gut dysbiosis.
The number one cause of leaky gut in our world is antibiotics. They truly are the greatest discovery of the 20th century but they’ve become the curse of the 21st. The use of antibiotics will decimate your microbiome and must be followed up with probiotics. Dr. Martin says that any doctor or pharmacist who doesn’t know this, is committing malpractice.
Join Dr. Martin as he talks about dysbiosis and what leaky gut really is. He uses an illustration of shag carpeting to show how our small intestine works.
Dr. Martin says it’s amazing what we're learning more and more about cancer. A new study is saying that cancer cells are much different than ordinary cells. Cancer cells have seven times more receptors for insulin than ordinary cells.
So, what does this mean? Our cells, and especially the cells in our muscles and liver, have little receptors that are docking stations for insulin. Whenever we eat, insulin is created, and something must be done with sugar. Insulin goes knocking on the doors of these receptors asking that sugar be stored, as sugar cannot remain in the bloodstream.
With cancer having seven times more receptors for insulin, when eating bread, cereal, pasta, rice, pastries, muffins, bagels, store bought milk, carbs, sugar, etc., you’re essentially feeding cancer. Join Dr. Martin as he unwraps the study and explains the connection between cancer cells and insulin resistance.
Dr. Martin has mentioned before how health care in North America is a management system that puts little emphasis on prevention. They wait until you’re sick before jumping into action!
To receive an official diagnosis of diabetes, you need your blood glucose to be a certain number. By this time, you’ve been sick for some time. Diabetes is the last thing that happens in your body, not the first.
Join Dr. Martin for an anatomy lesson showing how insulin is connected to every part of our bodies. He discusses prevention and why you need to pay attention to the early warning signs before you have diabetes.
Dr. Martin gets asked all the time about the connection between salt and high blood pressure. That question bothers him because it was never true! Salt is actually good for you, and it’s really important for your health!
Now the type of salt Dr. Martin is talking about isn’t your typical table salt. That’s sodium chloride and all its minerals have been stripped away. Dr. Martin recommends Himalayan salt or a good sea salt. Both have the minerals your body needs.
Join Dr. Martin as he talks about salt and explains why it doesn’t cause high blood pressure. Study after study has shown that eliminating sodium from your diet does very little to lower your blood pressure.

Some new studies came out the last few days that Dr. Martin says are quite interesting.
Two of the studies are on probiotics. Researchers are realizing more and more the importance of the microbiome. One of the studies looks at the role of probiotics in colorectal cancer. Your gut is made of billions and billions of bacteria – 3 to 5 pounds worth – and they’re seeing how antibiotics can destroy your microbiome, opening the door to disease.
The other study is reporting that a test of insulin sensitivity or insulin resistance, done once, can predict the risk of major heart disease over the next 22 years. Dr. Martin shares why the A1C test, glycated hemoglobin, is one of the most preventative tests that you can get.
Did you know that 65% of the population has some form of chronic disease? Heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer’s and cancers are all considered chronic diseases. But did you know that 90 some years ago, in 1930, it was under 8%?
What has happened that two thirds of the population now has some form of chronic disease? Dr. Martin says it’s because our diets have changed. The introduction of seed oils and the over-consumption of crappy carbs have all contributed to this change; but the biggest culprit is high fructose corn syrup. It’s the Frankenstein of sugar and it has set off an epidemic of an insulin resistant nation!
Join Dr. Martin as he lays out sugar’s connection to chronic disease. It’s not a pretty picture and it continues to get worse!
Dr. Martin looks at a new study on colds that’s saying sugar makes you susceptible to getting a cold and makes colds last longer.
Regular consumption of sugar, and especially high fructose corn syrup, will inevitably destroy your immune system. When you consume sugar, this study is saying that your white blood cells are essentially put to sleep, putting you at risk of catching a virus.
Join Dr. Martin as he shares this study and discusses how sugar also affects the gut, which actually is the biggest part of your immune system. Learn more in today’s episode!
If you’ve listened to Dr. Martin for some time, you know he’s not a fan of sugar. Two recent articles shared some interesting facts about sugar that Dr. Martin says are surprising, but not shocking.
We now eat in two weeks the amount of sugar our ancestors 200 years ago ate in a whole year. The average North American is consuming 200 pounds of sugar yearly! This is also making us heavier. The average weight of a man in North America is now 200 pounds, and it’s 171 pounds for women. Back in the 60’s those numbers were 30 pounds lighter!
Join Dr. Martin as he shares some principles of weight loss that often go overlooked. Sugar is a problem for most of the population but it doesn’t need to be for you!

You’ve probably heard the myth that snacking is good for you, or about less calories in and more calories out for weight loss. We’ve all heard many myths about food, and in today’s episode, Dr. Martin continues his series on debunking food myths.
Dr. Martin says there’s been a mantra for the last 60 to 70 years about eating less and moving more. The idea of less calories in and more calories out for weight loss is a complete load of bunk. Losing weight isn’t just dependent on calories out, but instead about the types of food you’re putting in your mouth.
The vegan diet has been gaining a lot of traction in recent years as more people become aware of the supposed environmental and health benefits of plant-based eating.
Dr. Martin says that plant-based eating being good for you is a myth. With his background in nutrition, Dr. Martin argues that a vegan diet does not provide the essential nutrients that the body needs.
In today's episode, Dr. Martin debunks the myth that veganism is a healthy choice and shares reasons why you’d be foolish to give up red meat!
When Dr. Martin was in grade school, food intolerances were unheard of. Nowadays, it’s estimated that 60 to 70% of the population has some form of food allergy. What has changed that they are so prevalent now?
In today’s episode, Dr. Martin continues with his series on myths. Yesterday he dispelled myths about vitamin D, and today he looks at myths about food.
We live in a different world than when Dr. Martin was a kid. The overuse of antibiotics and the presence of chemicals and plastics in our food are just a few examples of the various environmental factors that we are constantly exposed to.
Dr. Martin gets questions about vitamin D almost every day, and often those questions stem from bad information.
The number one question is how much vitamin D will cause toxicity. Because vitamin D is fat soluble, it can build up over time. Doctors are concerned about people taking too much, when they should really be more concerned with how deficient the population is in vitamin D.
Join Dr. Martin as he dispels common myths about vitamin D and shares why you absolutely need to be taking it, especially in the winter months!
