Dr. Martin looks at a new study that’s showing a connection between diabetes and dementia. The study is saying that you’re 3 times more susceptible for dementia if you develop diabetes before the age of 60.

What is going on in our world that Alzheimer’s is the number one killer in the UK, and number three in Canada and the US? When it comes to diabetes, we usually wait for an official diagnosis before making any changes to our diet. Unfortunately by this time, it’s too late. We ignored the clues our body gave us along the way.

Dr. Martin says that prevention starts in the kitchen. If we want to get off the road to diabetes, drastic changes in what food we eat and what fuel we burn will be needed.

Despite all the advancements that have been made in almost every area of our lives, one thing that we've really gone backwards on is our health. Medicine has advanced and we have medications for everything yet 93% of the population still has metabolic syndrome.

Dr. Martin says it’s because we’ve been lied to by the food industry. Lies like saturated fat being the cause of heart disease is one Dr. Martin needs to dispel on a daily basis. Another is that dietitians have continually been telling us that our brains need carbs.

If you’re anything like Dr. Martin, you hate being lied to. In today’s episode, Dr. Martin exposes some of the lies that we’ve been fed.

An article from the Center for Disease Control is saying that nearly half of all Americans have a chronic disease, and what's worse is that 40% of kids and adolescents already have a chronic disease.

According to the CDC, the American healthcare system, which is a disease care system just like in Canada, spends 4.1 trillion dollars a year and 90% of that goes to treating chronic disease. You know how much is spent on prevention? Pennies comparatively to these numbers. Dr. Martin says we’re going down the wrong path because we're not trying to prevent disease.

We’re already paying the price for “looking for love in the wrong places,” like Dr. Martin often says. He’s not optimistic that things will change anytime soon.

A recent article has revealed some frightening statistics on autism. Since the year 2000, there has been a 178% increase in autism. It used to be that 1 in 10,000 kids were autistic. That number is now 1 in every 22 kids has autism!

Dr. Martin says it’s an epidemic, but he can’t help but ask why this is happening. Back in the 1970s and 80s, autism was unheard of. Something autistic kids have in common is leaky gut syndrome. Dr. Martin says we need to start there.

Join Dr. Martin as he sheds some light on a very important topic in today’s episode.

Interesting study out of Johns Hopkins University is saying that those with hearing loss are five times more likely to develop dementia. The 12 year study followed 639 adults and determined that when you lose hearing, the brain atrophies.

There is a belief that says as you age, you lose hearing. Dr. Martin doesn’t necessarily buy that and says diet plays an important role, and especially glycation. Glycation is the loss of elasticity and sugar makes it worse!

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses the link between hearing loss and dementia in today’s episode.

The pancreas is a very important organ as it produces the hormone insulin that’s used to regulate our blood sugar. Dr. Martin often speaks of it and in today’s episode he looks at two important studies on the pancreas.

The first one on vitamin A reveals how important this vitamin is, especially on the cellular level. Vitamin A is our invisible mask that protects us from bacteria and viruses. When our pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin, it puts us on the road to diabetes. The second study looks at the role high fructose corn syrup plays in damaging the pancreas.

Join Dr. Martin as he teaches on the pancreas and why it’s imperative that we eliminate sugar from our diets.

A very recent study out of Harvard showed the benefits of eating no carbohydrates. Dr. Martin says they literally did the Reset by getting diabetic patients to eat only eggs, meat and cheese.

Over 2000 participants were monitored for 6 months and the results were quite convincing. All participants came off their injectable meds, 92% came off insulin, and 84% came off their oral medications. All of this happened just from eliminating carbs from the diet.

Join Dr. Martin as he unpacks this study from Harvard in today’s episode!

Dr. Martin often refers to the Titanic as a picture of the state of our health in North America. Disaster is pending and most people aren’t even aware.

According to some new stats, not only are we on the Titanic, but we’ve already hit the iceberg! 70% of adults are on at least one prescription medication, and that number quadruples after age 65. 71% of the population is overweight and 40% of those are classified as obese. On top of all this, there has been a 62% decrease in sperm count in men in the last 50 years!

Dr. Martin calls the entire situation an unmitigated disaster because it’s already here. We live in a sick nation with people who are physically and mentally sick.

Back in 1999, Dr. Martin wrote a book called, Steps to Fight Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for the Modern Woman. In the book he also discusses fibromyalgia, which he says is an aspect of chronic fatigue. These combined conditions have been renamed at the Martin Clinic. Dr. Martin now refers to them as adrenal exhaustion.

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin talks about the different factors that can lead to a category 5 storm of adrenal exhaustion. Chronic stress is the major contributor, but environmental factors like mold exposure, antibiotics, Lyme disease, family dynamics, and a poor diet are all contributing factors.

Dr. Martin also discusses various symptoms associated with adrenal exhaustion and how to address them. Don’t miss this informative episode!

There’s a study from 1973 that appeared in the Journal of Clinical Nutrition that Dr. Martin still remembers to this day. Researchers discovered that consuming 75 grams of sugar would stop white blood cells from chasing bacteria for up to 5 hours. The white blood cells would go for a siesta!

Now there’s a recent study from Dr. Lustig, one of the leading experts on sugar and the effect of sugar, saying that 50 grams of sugar is the level they can already assess damage to the liver. This is more reason why you really need to stop consuming sugar.

Dr. Martin says if you don’t do anything, at least give up sugar. If you truly want to get healthy, it’s an absolute necessity!

One of the most confusing things in medicine is histamine intolerance. Histamine is a substance your body produces when it needs to get rid of something. For some people their body seems to remain in a high state of alert, overreacting to everything.

Dr. Martin says it really is an autoimmune reaction and he used to see it a lot in his clinic. For some women, every one of their hormones, cortisol, estrogen, insulin, thyroid were out of whack.

Join Dr. Martin as he unravels histamine intolerance and its complicated puzzle in today’s episode.

A study out of Norway looked at 50,000 people, both men and women, who had high total cholesterol. After following them for many years, it was discovered that it made absolutely no difference in rates of heart disease. In fact, for the women, if you had high cholesterol, your heart was actually better!

Join Dr. Martin as he unpacks this study in today’s episode. Dr. Martin can’t help but shake his head that it’s been 50+ years and we’re still having to talk about cholesterol. Cholesterol doesn’t cause heart disease. It never did.

An Israeli study is saying that exercise, the real vitamin E, can reduce your risk of cancer by 72%. The study looked specifically at muscle building exercises.

You may not know who Otto Warburg was, but he had a theory that cancer cells are different from normal cells. Normal cells thrive on protein and fat, whereas cancer cells feed on sugar. The premise of the Warburg Effect is that the more muscle you have, the more bins you have for storing glucose.

Dr. Martin has often talked about having larger storage bins for glucose and that’s why muscle building exercises are the most important exercises you can do, especially when it comes to preventing cancer.

A new study out of Tufts University on prostate cancer is looking at the P13K enzyme. This enzyme’s job is to open the valve that lets sugar in. If you have diabetes, the valve barely functions, but if you have cancer, the valve is wide open.

Why does this happen? Join Dr. Martin to break down this study. The names of some proteins and enzymes can be confusing to most, but Dr. Martin is here to decipher them for you.

May 22, 2023

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States is now recommending that breast cancer screening start at age 40. It used to be 50.

Dr. Martin explores the reasons behind the change in today’s episode. It’s not that Dr. Martin doesn’t like screening, but he thinks focusing on prevention first is a much better approach.

May 19, 2023

When it comes to cancer imaging, there’s a new kid on the block. GlucoCEST, or Glucose Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer, utilizes an MRI for detecting cancer and it’s quite effective. You’d think this news would be mainstream, but sadly it isn’t. This technology is so new that Dr. Martin hasn’t even heard of it.

Another study Dr. Martin looks at is saying how cancer can often be misdiagnosed for a fungal infection. Dr. Martin explains why this is significant in today’s episode.

May 18, 2023

What does Dr. Martin think of weight loss medication? Not much, he says. You may lose some weight while you're on the medication, but the problem is you're going to get a lot of serious side effects. Plus, as soon as you go off the medication, you’ll gain back all the weight.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses some of the weight loss programs and why eating eggs, meat and cheese is the best option. He teaches on how fat storage works in the first place.

May 16, 2023

Do you know the time of the day when people most frequently have a heart attack? The article Dr. Martin read says it’s early in the morning. But why is this? What’s different about earlier in the morning versus later in the day?

It has to do with blood clots, and we are more likely to have clots when we are dehydrated. We are most dehydrated first thing in the morning, and that means our blood can be thick as molasses.

Join Dr. Martin as he teaches on the power of water and why it’s so good for your heart.

May 15, 2023

A study Dr. Martin looked at is saying how an ongoing stressful situation can cause a healthy person to develop insulin resistance in as little as 4 days!

We all need cortisol. It’s part of our fight or flight mechanism and it’s our friend until it becomes our enemy. The problem is when cortisol doesn’t shut off. This leads to insulin resistance, and left unchecked, it can become a perfect storm for a cancer diagnosis.

Join Dr. Martin as he teaches on cortisol and insulin resistance and how to break the cycle.
