Dr. Martin has talked before about why you shouldn’t eat at night. Two new studies have come out that are again saying not to eat at night. One about acid reflux and the other about anxiety and depression.

When it comes to digestion, limiting your eating time can have a huge benefit on your health. The same goes for depression. Those who didn’t eat at night were 16 to 26% less likely to get depression.

Join Dr. Martin to learn why not eating at night can improve your overall well-being!

Nov 7, 2022

In the last episode, Dr. Martin talked about the big food conglomerates that control nutrition. They influence what we eat in a major way! The same goes for medicine. It’s controlled by big pharmaceutical conglomerates.

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin looks at how big pharma has a major influence in the world of medicine. Doctors have essentially become firefighters, managing people’s symptoms, and not getting to the root cause.

Join Dr. Martin to learn how cardiologists got it wrong when it comes to cholesterol.

In a typical grocery store in North America, you’ll find around 33,000 products. That number may be surprising, but what’s more surprising is they’re all owned by 8 to 10 large conglomerates. Big food companies that own everything!

In the article Dr. Martin read, it was saying how these big companies also control what’s being taught to nutritionists and dieticians. What that means is what we’re being told to eat benefits their bottom line more than our health.

We’ve been indoctrinated in our thinking. In today’s episode, Dr. Martin challenges listeners to change their thinking. Things aren’t what they seem, and especially in today’s world!

Nov 3, 2022

October is breast cancer awareness month. Dr. Martin promised he would talk about breast health this month, and he didn’t forget.

An article caught Dr. Martin’s eye about probiotics and breast cancer. A study looked at women who had breast cancer that were taking probiotics. Their outcomes were better because the probiotic enhanced the effectiveness of the breast cancer drug tamoxifen.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses breast health in today’s episode. He says we’re continuing to lose the war on cancer because they’re “looking for love in all the wrong places.” Learn why estrogen is the culprit when it comes to breast cancer.

Don’t ignore skin tags! That’s the headline of a new study that says you’re 11 times more likely to have metabolic syndrome if you have a skin tag.

What are skin tags anyways? Dr. Martin says they’re a sign of hyperlipidemia or hyperemia, meaning you have high circulating cortisol. They’re an early warning sign of a bigger problem that should be taken seriously.

Metabolic syndrome comes from food and primarily from sugar and crappy carbohydrates. If you have skin tags, it’s time you look into the problem!

A recent article is saying that 70 million Americans now suffer from irritable bowel syndrome! For Canada, that translates to about 10 million people that have digestive problems.

Join Dr. Martin as he discusses the pain and discomfort that people with IBS experience on a daily basis. In order to fix the problem, you need to address the issues in both the stomach and intestines. Dr. Martin says it needs to be a top to bottom approach to be effective.

Join Dr. Martin as he shares how stopping leaky gut is the key in preventing IBS!

Oct 28, 2022

Dr. Martin looks at an interesting study that shows how people with sleep problems are likely to also have digestive problems. The study looks at the actual gut-brain connection that Dr. Martin has spoken of before.

There are several things that can happen when you don’t sleep properly. One of them is that your hormones get messed up. Your brain has a drainage system that only works when you sleep. Another thing is that you can develop digestive problems.

Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode to learn about sleep and its connection to the health of your gut!

The FDA has told cereal companies that they can no longer say their products are healthy. People have this idea that they’re making healthy choices when they eat cereal. This can’t be further from the truth and Dr. Martin says it’s a win for us!

Cereal companies in the United States and in Canada have a lot of money and influence. They have convinced the world that lower cholesterol is good for you, and big pharma is in lockstep with them. Creating a health problem and providing the remedy is big business!

Join Dr. Martin as he shares several headlines recently in the news.

A recent study looked at 90,000 cancer-free participants to see what would happen when they started drinking their sugar. Dr. Martin has always said that drinking sugar is worse for you than eating it. The study actually found an increase in pancreatic cancer when the participants drank diet soda.

Cancer cells are like teenagers looking for sugar and study after study, including this one, are saying that cancer needs fuel and until it becomes a tumor it will thrive on sugar. Join Dr. Martin as he looks at orange juice and soda and what happens when you regularly drink it.

Often when we’re looking for a diagnosis, we present a series of symptoms and that can mean this, this or the other thing. This is what we call a differential diagnosis. You need to rule out the symptoms until you get to the right diagnosis.

A zinc deficiency is one of those conditions that presents a series of symptoms. Join Dr. Martin as he teaches about zinc and explains what causes its depletion. If you’re not getting enough zinc from your food, you need to be supplementing!

Oct 21, 2022

What happened to the flu season the last couple of years? It seemed to disappear, but Dr. Martin says in all reality, it didn’t disappear at all.

When the temperatures drop, and the days get shorter and shorter, people, and especially Canadians, experience a drop in vitamin D levels. People are covering up with more clothing and spending more time indoors. This is why we see an increase in cases of the flu.

Join Dr. Martin in today’s episode to learn why increasing your intake of vitamin D is crucial in preparing for flu season!

Oct 20, 2022

Dr. Martin looks at a study that’s saying elevated blood pressure and triglyceride levels contribute to the progression of coronary calcification. Researchers are getting closer to the cause, but the world in general still thinks that cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol in particular, causes calcification of the coronary arteries.

Dr. Martin has been consistent as the day is long in telling folks it’s not cholesterol, but in fact metabolic syndrome. Join him as he goes over the study and shares ways to reduce your risk of developing calcification in your arteries.

Dr. Martin looks at three major articles on depression. Two involve the use of antidepressants, the third about how hopelessness, loneliness, and unhappiness accelerate the aging process.

It’s being reported that long term use of SSRI antidepressants can double your risk of heart disease. Dr. Martin has said multiple times that SSRIs were meant as a short-term fix. The medication was never meant to be used more than six months under any circumstance.

Medicine will say that depression is a chemical imbalance, when really, it’s caused by low levels of serotonin. Dr. Martin is about getting to the root cause and he discusses ways to increase your serotonin in today’s episode.

Oct 17, 2022

If you’ve followed Dr. Martin for any time, you know how much he loves coffee! Another study is showing how coffee reduces the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

The benefits of coffee don't come from the caffeine. It’s the thousands of phytonutrients that are in coffee that make it good for you. One nutrient in particular, quercetin is especially good for you. Dr. Martin explains why in today’s episode.

Oct 14, 2022

In the last episode, Dr. Martin talked about fructose fatty liver and how it’s more problematic than we thought. From driving insulin resistance, to increasing uric acid and lowering nitric oxide in the liver, it’s so important that we address liver health!

In today’s episode, Dr. Martin talks about the functions of the liver and why its health is so important. The liver is one of the organs you can’t live without. Surprisingly, if you donate part of your liver, it will grow back. There's not an organ in your body that can regenerate itself like the liver!

Join Dr. Martin as he continues his talk on the importance of a healthy liver!

Oct 13, 2022

In the 1970s, we only heard of cirrhosis of the liver, and that was caused by alcohol. Today we have a new problem called fructose fatty liver. The driving factor is the consumption of high fructose corn syrup, or Frankensugar as Dr. Martin calls it!

Dr. Martin talks about fructose fatty liver and how it’s more problematic than we thought. From driving insulin resistance, to increasing uric acid and lowering nitric oxide in the liver, it’s a new epidemic!

Oct 11, 2022

A recent study is saying that LDL cholesterol is a poor risk marker for heart disease. Dr. Martin has been saying this for years, and it appears that more studies are starting to say the same thing.

The study goes on to say that the triglyceride HDL ratio, which is used as a marker of insulin resistance, is actually a good risk marker for heart disease. Dr. Martin has been consistent in saying how cholesterol doesn’t cause heart disease but triglycerides do.

Join Dr. Martin as he talks about the dangers of triglycerides in today’s episode.

Oct 10, 2022

Birth control pills have been around a long time. When something's been around for a long time like that, researchers have a chance to study it and its side effects over a long period of time.

Birth control pills are in fact drugs. A lot of young girls are put on birth control, not so much for birth control, but because they have bad periods. Research is showing how this sets up these girls for a lifetime of health problems.

Join Dr. Martin as he teaches about hormones in today's episode, and looks at the many side effects of birth control pills.

Oct 7, 2022

The television series The Biggest Loser ran for 17 seasons. It’s being reported that most of the winning contestants have gained all their weight back. Dr. Martin explains why it happened in today’s episode.

Nearly all diets use a caloric deficit for losing weight. They want you to eat less and move more. Almost all the participants felt like they were being starved. They failed to keep the weight off because their relationship with food was never fixed.

Dr. Martin says that weight loss is more about your relationship to food than to the scale. Learning to eat the proper foods and avoiding harmful ones is much more important than burning calories like with The Biggest Loser.

Oct 6, 2022

Dr. Martin looks at 3 remarkable studies on memory, specifically on how to restore and protect your memories. From making sure you have optimal levels of vitamin D and DHA, to doing proper exercises, you won’t want to miss the findings from these studies!

If you remember from biology class, there are two primary centres in our brains called the hippocampus and the hypothalamus. The hippocampus is your memory centre, while the hypothalamus handles the regulation of your hormones.

What’s remarkable about these studies is they’re showing that the hippocampus can be regenerated. Old memories can be restored and protected!
